IHS Dementia Carer's Project
Dementia/Alzheimer disease is also termed as The Living Death. It is caused by lack of supply of blood to brain, leading first to Minor confusion and then to Increasing confusion, Memory failure and Incontinence. A dementia patient may cause serious injury to himself due to failure to appreciate environmental dangers, and therefor in need of caring and support.
Talk & support
It can help to talk to someone who understands the ups and downs of life as a Family Carer. Our Talk and Support Telephone Supporters are there to listen and talk with you about how things are going. You may want to talk about your caring role, or to use the opportunity to talk about something completely different, like your hobbies and interests. The Telephone Supporter may also be able to tell you about services available to Family Carers.
Talk and Support has a team of carefully selected volunteers, called Telephone Supporters, many of whom have been Family Carers themselves. We choose someone for you that we feel you will get on with, who then gives you a phone call once a week or once a fortnight.
